Help add more songs to TotalMusicGaming

Hello everyone! This thread is for you to post songs from the SingStore and disks which are not currently available on SingstarChallenge.

Please post the following information about each song so we can add it to the database:

Song Artist
Song Title
Whether a 'short' version is available as well as normal
Whether the song has a 'rap scoring' on/off option
Whether the song consists mostly of rap
If the song has more than one choice of singer (ie. Lead/Backing), write the names of each singer.

We cannot add songs without all of this information.

Please note the following disks will be added during the beta and we do NOT need information for them:

That's great Sofia, thanks! I'll get them added over the next few days :-) Singstar 1 is now added; if you've already selected it under My Disks, deselect it, click update, then retick it and click update again, then all the Singstar 1 songs will be added to your collection. I'm half way through adding Singstar 2.

There is a huge amount of songs missing from the Singstore list of available songs. I began making a list but it would have taken too long. Perhaps an initial sweep of the English Singstore and inputting all songs currently available would be quicker than beta testers having to spot the ones that are missing from the current list?

As for the songs, thanks very much for posting them, I'll get them onto the site shortly, just imagine the headache I had from cataloguing my 400-odd songs plus the user-submitted ones, AND writing the SQL code to add them to the database :P That was many hours in front of the TV :-)

Yes, all Singstore only songs.

Two people have contacted me JulieK and nat9872 saying they are having difficulties registering on the website. [edit - nat9872 has now successfully registered]

One realistic polite suggestion

I think I will be one of the very few people who will go through the laborious process of adding songs that are not already listed on the Singstore list. Perhaps, if the need to define whether a song has a 'short' version, names of singers, and whether it includes a rap feature (everyone hates the rap meter on Singstar anyway, lol) would allow you to add all songs from the Singstore without the need for people manually inputting them in themselves. All you need then is the artiste's name and song title which is available on Singstore. I think realistically this may put a lot of people off adding many songs that are not already on the list.

The difference being, whereas you have motivation to improve the song lists as it's your website, I believe general users just want to have fun inputting their scores and will find inputting long lists of songs laboriously boring and probably not be motivated to do so.

As far as the info needed, unfortunately it's needed to make the score tables work properly. Some people do like rapping including myself :P I have been wondering if you can deduce whether 'short' is available by looking at the length of each song, which is shown on the SingStore. Another alternative would be to enable entry of short scores for all songs until someone tells us a short version isn't available.

In any case, entering the song data is a one-time thing. We've already put through a dozen disks and there's over 600 songs in the database now, I think we will have most of it covered before too long. If we don't, I'll look at alternatives.

Hey Jez, yeah I just talked with Methras about perhaps utilising your help, it would be great if we could get together the remaining songs and when you posted over on the Sony EU PS community forums I just checked out your site and I see you have a nice and thoroughly made database. As you've seen we need a bit more info for each song though.

What are your programming skills like? Got any knowledge of SQL? Any interest of maintaining a song database for me? :-) (mainly: adding new SingStore tracks every time they update, plus the one-time population of all the missing songs)

Trying not to regurgitate my CV...PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Java (probably a bit rusty now), VB6, VB.NET, SQL (MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle) - unix shell stuff like 'awk' and 'sed' helps with data processing too. I've been doing this sort of thing for about 17 years now (OMG I'm so old ).

As I have every intention of keeping my DB up-to-date with all the releases it shouldn't be too much of a chore to do another. Happy to help.
